The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has waded into the controversy surrounding comments made by Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), against Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
Dr. Tenkorang-Twum, while reacting to the recent assault incident at Ridge Hospital, suggested that the Minister lacked an understanding of hospital operations because of his background as a farmer.
His remarks drew sharp backlash from the public, with many describing them as unnecessary, disrespectful, and offensive to Ghana’s farming community.
In a strongly worded statement on Friday, August 22, GNAFF condemned the remarks, describing them as “derogatory and unwarranted verbal attacks” not only on the Minister but also on farmers across the country.
GNAFF has therefore given Dr. Tenkorang-Twum a 24-hour ultimatum to retract his comments and issue an unqualified apology to the Health Minister and farmers nationwide.
The association warned that failure to comply would compel them to take “appropriate steps” to defend the dignity of their members.
“GNAFF hereby serves notice to Dr. David Tenkorang Twum to, within 24 hours, retract his unfortunate remarks and render an unqualified apology to all farmers and fishermen across Ghana. Anything short of this will compel GNAFF to consider the appropriate steps necessary to defend the dignity and integrity of our hardworking members,” the association said.
The association further called on Ghanaians to continue respecting the sacrifices of farmers and fishermen, who they described as “the lifeline of national development.”
