President of Ghana Journalists Association(GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has pledged massive media support for the Electoral Commission (EC) as part of the EC’s information dissemination agenda.
He said the EC deserves the support of the media in this crucial elections moments in sensitizing the public on the electoral processes .
The GJA President gave the assurance at a meeting between the EC Chair, Madam Jean Mensa and Editors, media managers in Accra on Tuesday.
He said the media’s role in election 2024 can not be overemphasized given the high stakes, hence the need for the media to join the peace building process with information that are devoid of mischief and malice.

He later called for a stronger ties and support from the EC to the media in the area of training and advert placement to empower the media to play its educative and informative role as far as elections are concerned.
He revealed that over 500 Journalists were trained in previous electioneering year, advising the current EC to take a cue from the past and train Journalists.
He also revealed that the GJA through the GJA/US Embassy peaceful Journalistic discourse has built the capacity of Journalists on professional reporting with the aim of ensuring peace in the elections.
Mr. Dwumfour therefore Called for training of Journalists to prepare Journalists adequately for the election.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Jean Mensa assured the media of the EC’s commitment to support the media in which ever form in order to prepare them ahead of elections 2024.
She said the media is a key ally to the Commission hence deserves the needed support from the EC.
Madam Mensa also assured the media of a regular Editor’s forum as requested by the GJA President to enhance the smooth dissemination of information from the EC.
