The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has interdicted six officers after a viral video showed them verbally assaulting a superior at the Offinso In-land Checkpoint on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Service, the incident occurred while the officers were on duty and the superior officer — who had identified himself as a Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) — was travelling as a passenger in a commercial vehicle.
The Service described the conduct captured in the footage as “unacceptable,” citing the officers’ “verbal assault, lack of civility, and open disrespect toward a superior officer.”
GIS noted that the behaviour constituted a clear violation of its Code of Conduct and fell “far below the standards expected of personnel of the Service.”
GIS stressed that the institution places a strong premium on professionalism and decorum, especially in engagements with travellers and during official operations.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration reaffirmed this position, emphasizing that “professionalism, respect for authority, and integrity remain core values of the Service” and warning that any actions that undermine these principles would attract “swift and decisive action.”
The six officers have since been interdicted pending further disciplinary procedures.
