Government has confirmed that a truck carrying Ghanaian tomato traders was caught in a terrorist attack in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14.
According to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior, the attack reportedly targeted a military installation in the area, and the traders’ vehicle was inadvertently caught in the incident.
Titao has been under frequent militant attacks since 2019, making the northern region a high-risk zone.
The government said the Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso is actively liaising with local authorities to visit the site, gather information, and identify the Ghanaians involved.
Minister for the Interior and National Security, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has assured the public that further updates would be communicated as details become available.
As of now, official verification of casualties or injuries among the traders is still ongoing.
The Ministry emphasized that Ghana is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating diplomatically to ensure the safety and welfare of its citizens in Burkina Faso.
