Suspended staff of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) have taken to the streets, demanding their reinstatement after being sidelined without pay since February 2025.
The group, who protested at the company’s headquarters and later at Black Star Square, carried placards appealing to President John Dramani Mahama and the GWL board to end what they described as an “unjust suspension.”
“Today is a very sad day in our lives, we have been suspended without any reason. It’s been 8 months since our MD suspended us. We are here to plead with President John Dramani Mahama to intervene on our behalf. Things are getting worse. We have heard that they’re employing new people to take our roles,” said Eugene Larbi, one of the affected workers, who also alleged new employees are being recruited to replace them.
Their suspension stems from a February 11 directive, which nullified appointments made after December 7, 2024, citing breaches of governance procedures.
The workers, however, argue they are being unfairly punished and want government to restore their jobs and salaries.
