The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed that the Ghana Police Service will be the sole security agency responsible for safeguarding its Presidential Primary on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Through the party’s Presidential Elections Committee, NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye stressed that no unauthorised personnel from National Security or any other institution will be allowed at voting centres, collation points, or related activities.
“Any attempt by National Security or other unauthorised bodies to deploy operatives will be treated as a deliberate and unlawful intrusion into the internal democratic processes of the Party,” Boakye said.
The directive comes ahead of a highly contested primary featuring Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kennedy Agyapong and Kwabena Agyepong.
Boakye noted that the Ghana Police Service has demonstrated professionalism and capacity, and must ensure that only authorised and identifiable officers are present throughout the election exercise.
“The NPP will not hesitate to take all lawful measures to protect the integrity of this process. Any unauthorised presence will be challenged and resisted within the bounds of the law,” Boakye added.
The party reiterated that the election must proceed without interference to guarantee a transparent and credible process as delegates cast their votes to select the next NPP presidential candidate.
