The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has revealed that the government has officially cancelled the Ghana.gov platform—an e-services portal introduced under the previous Akufo-Addo administration—citing the absence of a formal contract and unjustifiable monthly payments.
Ghana.gov was launched as a central digital payments and services hub, intended to allow citizens and businesses to access and pay for government services online.
However, according to Sam George, the platform operated without a valid contract and racked up tens of millions of cedis in payments to private companies each month.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Friday, August 1, the minister said:
“The Ghana.gov platform has run under the previous Akufo-Addo administration without a contract. Ten of millions of Ghana cedis were paid every month to companies without a contract, we have put an end and stop to that. Since President Mahama came not even a pesewa has been paid on that because we cannot for a project that has no contract.”
He further disclosed that the Ministry has redesigned the entire project in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and is currently awaiting clearance from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) to launch a new platform by the final quarter of the year.
“The Ministry has redesigned the project, we are going to launch it in Q4 of this year. Working closely with the Ministry of Finance, we are currently at the Public Procurement Authority seeking clearance to proceed with a public tender to ensure that the best value of money is achieved for the Ghanaian people,” he added.
