Ghana has begun negotiations with the family of Guinea’s first president, Ahmed Sékou Touré, to acquire the house where Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah lived and worked during his final years as co-president of Guinea.
In a Facebook post, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the initiative is being carried out on the instructions of President John Mahama to preserve Nkrumah’s legacy and develop the property as part of a historical tourism circuit linking Ghana and Guinea.

“This landmark decision was conveyed to the Sékou Touré family on Saturday when Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang led our team to visit the family and tour Nkrumah’s abandoned residence following the investiture of President Mamady Doumbouya,” Ablakwa noted.
The Ghanaian delegation was welcomed by three generations of the Sékou Touré family, led by the former president’s eldest son.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently negotiating terms and engaging preservation experts to restore the property.

“In the spirit of transparency and accountability, the Ghanaian public shall be fully apprised at every stage,” Ablakwa added, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding an essential piece of African history.
