Ghana Football Association has sacked Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars, bringing his tenure to an abrupt end following a string of disappointing results.
The decision was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, shortly after Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart, which followed a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria during the March international break.
In announcing the move, the FA stated, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately.”
It added, “The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
Sources indicate that the decision was taken after an emergency meeting involving FA officials and representatives from the Sports Ministry, led by Minister Kofi Adams, as concerns mounted over the team’s recent performances.
Addo’s departure comes at a critical time, with Ghana preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Panama and Croatia. The back-to-back defeats in March raised questions about the team’s readiness for the global tournament.
The FA has indicated that it will soon outline a new technical direction for the national team as preparations intensify ahead of the World Cup.
“The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course,” the statement concluded.
