The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially reinstated Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) across all public Senior High, Technical, and STEM schools nationwide.

The move, announced in a statement on Thursday, July 17, 2025, signed by Daniel Fenyii, the Head of Public Relations of GES follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama approving the full reinstatement of PTAs in all pre-tertiary schools across the country.

This decision, according to GES marks a shift from the previous arrangement where schools operated under Parent Associations (PAs), which excluded teachers.

The exclusion of educators limited the effectiveness of such associations in fostering collaboration and improving educational outcomes.

According to the GES, all heads of public Senior High, Technical, and STEM schools have been instructed to immediately operationalize the reinstatement of PTAs.

“The Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform the general public, particularly parents, teachers, and stakeholders in the education sector, of the directive from His Excellency, the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, on the full reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all pre-tertiary schools across the country. In line with this directive, Management of GES has instructed all Heads of Public Senior High, Technical and STEM Schools to operationalise the reinstatement of PTAs with immediate effect.”

The aim is to strengthen collaboration between parents, teachers, and communities to enhance the delivery of quality education to Ghanaian learners.

The GES also stated that detailed guidelines covering the structure, responsibilities, and financial accountability mechanisms of the PTAs will be issued soon.
