Teachers can now apply for senior leadership positions as the Ghana Education Service (GES) has removed previous restrictions tied to office vacancies, clearing the way for qualified staff to ascend to Director II and Director I ranks.
GES management, in a statement confirmed that all arrangements for the promotion process have been completed, following extensive consultations with teacher unions, the Public Services Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and other stakeholders.
According to GES, a final report from the review committee has guided the updated framework.
“The first call for applications and the accompanying aptitude test for promotion to Director II and Director I ranks will be announced by the end of the first quarter of 2026,” GES stated.
Under the revised system, promotions are no longer limited by the number of available positions, a change reflecting the government’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding qualified teaching personnel.
Detailed guidelines and application procedures will be shared through official GES channels.
