The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has emphasized that recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) under President John Mahama’s leadership will be strictly based on merit, not monetary influence.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series held at Jubilee House on Monday, July 21, 2025, Dr. Boamah cautioned prospective applicants against falling for fraudulent schemes orchestrated by individuals posing as recruitment agents.
“Joining the Ghana Armed Forces under President Mahama will be based solely on merit—not money. We seek to train soldiers who will not be in haste to provide guard duties for unauthorised persons. That era is over!” Dr. Boamah asserted.
He made it clear that no individual or organization has been authorized by either the Ministry of Defence or the Ghana Armed Forces to conduct recruitment activities on their behalf.
Dr. Boamah’s remarks come amid rising concerns over fake enlistment scams and favoritism in previous recruitment drives. He warned the public to be vigilant and avoid engaging with imposters who promise placement in exchange for cash.
“The public is therefore advised to avoid fraudsters and scammers who pose as agents of the Armed Forces to recruit personnel. You will engage them at your own risk,” he warned.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to a transparent, fair, and credible recruitment process that reflects the core values of discipline and integrity upheld by the GAF.
