Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of six young Ghanaians during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
In a statement, she said, “The Vice President of the Republic, H.E Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has received with profound sorrow the tragic news of the stampede that claimed the lives of six young Ghanaians, all aspiring to join the Ghana Armed Forces, and left several others injured.”
She extended her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a full recovery to those injured.
She also called on citizens to remain composed as authorities investigate the incident and take measures to prevent future tragedies, “The Vice President calls on all Ghanaians to remain calm as authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and take urgent measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.”
The Ghana Armed Forces has suspended the ongoing recruitment exercise following the stampede. Medical teams at the 37 Military Hospital are treating 28 casualties, including 12 in critical condition and five in intensive care.
President John Dramani Mahama has also confirmed that all six victims were young women and has directed a full, independent investigation into the incident, emphasizing the need for improved safety protocols during public recruitment exercises.
