The Ghana Armed Forces has temporarily halted its military recruitment exercise after a tragic stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, claimed the lives of six potential recruits and left dozens injured.
The chaos unfolded early in the morning when a surge of applicants breached security checkpoints, rushing the gates ahead of the scheduled screening around 6:20 a.m.
In total, 28 individuals were affected, with 12 in critical condition and five admitted to the ICU.
The Air Force screening, originally set for today, has been postponed giving authorities time to review and strengthen safety measures.
The injured are receiving emergency care at the 37 Military Hospital, where medical teams are working to stabilize them.
In response, the Ghana Armed Forces extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Officials emphasized that the pause in recruitment will allow a full review of protocols to prevent further tragedies.
The incident has sparked nationwide concern, highlighting the urgent need for stricter crowd management and safety measures in large-scale recruitment exercises.
