The Ghana Armed Forces and Police have launched coordinated dawn operations in parts of the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo Regions to arrest suspects behind recent attacks on anti-illegal mining task forces.
Sources indicate the swoops follow assaults on officials from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during ongoing anti-galamsey operations.
The operations, described as targeted and intelligence-led, began early Wednesday in communities including Dadwene, Anwona, Ehi, Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani.
A statement from the Armed Forces warned that anyone obstructing security operations against illegal mining “will face the full force of the law.”
The public has been assured of safety as the exercise continues, with authorities commending citizens, civil society, and the media for condemning the attacks and supporting the anti-galamsey drive.
