Former MASLOC CEO, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has been arrested by United States Marshals and is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, Nevada.
This was announced by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, in an official statement issued on Thursday, January 15, confirming that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was taken into custody on January 6, 2026, following an extradition request submitted by Ghanaian authorities in July 2024.
According to the ambassador, the arrest was carried out to enable her to face court proceedings connected to her conviction in Ghana. She is being held pending her appearance before a US court to determine the next steps in the extradition process.
Tamakloe-Attionu was sentenced in April 2024 by the Accra High Court (Financial and Economic Division) to 10 years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of multiple offences, including causing financial loss to the state and money laundering, during her tenure at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).
The case, which dates back to activities between 2013 and 2016, involved the misuse of public funds earmarked for loans, disaster relief, and public sensitisation programmes.
