Delegates and branch executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Adansi North Constituency of the Ashanti Region have expressed support for the incumbent constituency chairman, Eric Opoku, ahead of the party’s upcoming internal elections.
According to the delegates, they intend to support Mr Opoku to retain his position for another term, citing what they describe as his loyalty, dedication, resourcefulness and humility.
The delegates made their position known to the Radiant Newspaper during a visit to the constituency to assess the prospects of aspirants contesting various constituency executive positions.
Some of the branch executives who spoke to the newspaper said Mr Opoku had demonstrated a strong commitment to the party and its members throughout his tenure.
They also cited his generosity and relationship with party members and sympathisers as factors they believe have strengthened the NDC’s appeal in the constituency.
According to the delegates, Mr Opoku had remained active in party affairs even before assuming a constituency executive position, using his personal resources to support party activities and engaging with members through religious and other social events.
They further credited his leadership with contributing to efforts to make the NDC more attractive to voters in the constituency.
The delegates noted that the constituency has traditionally been considered a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but argued that the NDC’s performance under Mr Opoku’s leadership contributed to the party’s electoral fortunes in the 2024 general elections.
The branch executives subsequently expressed confidence in Mr Opoku’s chances in the upcoming constituency elections and pledged their support for his bid to retain the chairmanship.
