A court in Agona Nkwanta has sentenced farmer Emmanuel Kwofie to three months in prison with hard labour for assaulting his wife, Diana Mensah, in a case that drew public attention after footage of the incident went viral.
Kwofie, 30, was sentenced on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after pleading guilty to the assault charge before the Agona Nkwanta District Court.
The Western Regional Police Command confirmed the conviction in a statement, explaining that the accused was arrested two days after the incident and brought before the court.
“Emmanuel Kwofie was arrested on 12th October 2026 and subsequently put before the Agona Nkwanta District Court on 14th October 2026, presided over by His Worship Mr. Kuma Selorm Dzata.”
The police said the accused admitted the charge, leading to his conviction and custodial sentence.
“The accused was charged with assault and pleaded guilty to the charge. He was consequently convicted on his own plea and sentenced to three (3) months’ imprisonment with hard labour.”
Investigations by the police revealed that Kwofie is married to Mensah, who trades in second-hand clothing. The couple live together at Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality.
The assault took place on October 8, 2026, after Kwofie allegedly accused his wife of having an extramarital affair.
Police said the incident was captured in a video that later spread across social media platforms.
“On 8th October 2026, suspect accused Diana of having extra marital affair and subjected her to severe beating as seen in the video.”
Kwofie was subsequently arrested on October 12 before being prosecuted two days later.
The case gained public attention because of the circulation of the video showing the assault. The police subsequently investigated the incident, leading to Kwofie’s arrest and prosecution.
The conviction was announced by the Western Regional Police Command in a press release dated Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
