Ghana will reopen its Embassy in Tehran, Iran, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, after nearly three months of closure due to heightened tensions in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, September 2, that the decision to resume operations follows significant improvements in Iran’s security environment.
According to the Ministry, the Embassy was closed down on June 16, 2025, at the peak of hostilities between Iran and Israel, when both nations exchanged missile strikes that caused widespread damage and casualties.
The closure was described as a precautionary measure to safeguard diplomatic staff and the Ghanaian community in Iran.
A portion of the statement noted, “Further to its Press Release of Monday, 16th June, 2025 on the temporary closure of the Embassy of Ghana in Tehran, Iran to guarantee the safety of the Staff of the Mission during heightened tension between Iran and Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the general public that with the improvement in the security situation in Iran, a decision has been taken for the Embassy to resume its operations on Tuesday, 16th September, 2025.”
The Ministry assured that while the mission is reopening, it will continue to closely monitor the situation in the region to ensure the safety of both its personnel and Ghanaians residing in Iran.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of Ghanaians abroad and pledged to provide regular updates on developments.
