Police in the Eastern Region have opened investigations into a violent confrontation at the Akwatia Lorry Station during Tuesday’s by-election, which left the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Third National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, injured.
The incident occurred in the Vawaso Electoral Area after a heated altercation between Alhaji Masawudu and members of the escort team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.
Alhaji Masawudu later lodged a formal complaint with the Akwatia District Police. He was issued a medical form for treatment and asked to return the endorsed report to support ongoing inquiries.
In a statement, police said the matter has been referred to the Eastern South Regional Command for further investigation and assured the public that “due process will be followed to ensure justice.”
The Akwatia by-election was tense, with both NDC and NPP accusing each other of intimidation tactics. Police say they are maintaining heightened security to prevent further disturbances.
