The Eastern Regional Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has banned three second-cycle schools from all sports and other related activities for two years, following disturbances linked to the recent Regional Super Zonal Sports (Games) Competition.
The affected schools are Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH), New Juaben Senior High School (NJUASCO), and New Nsutam Senior High Technical School (NSUTECH).
In a statement dated Wednesday February, 11, 2026, the Regional Directorate and the Regional Second Cycle Schools’ Sports Executives said they were displeased with incidents that occurred “before, during and after” the competition.
The directive said students from the schools were found engaging in “acts of hooliganism,” describing the behaviour as unacceptable and contrary to discipline under the GES Code of Conduct and the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association (ERSCSA) Code of Discipline.
As part of the sanctions, the schools have been banned from “organizing, spectating or taking part in all Sporting Activities including Quizzes, Debates, Cadetting and Entertainments” at the school, zonal and regional levels.
The ban takes effect from 11th February, 2026, and will last for two years.
Each school has also been fined GH¢500, while the schools may be surcharged to pay for the cost of any damage or injury, which will be determined by a committee based on the extent of the damage or injury.
The Regional Director, Mary Asantewaa Owusu (PhD), urged school authorities to ensure that “students, staff, old students and other supporters adhere to all rules and regulations” to avoid further disciplinary action.
