Owners of vehicles registered before 2023 will be required to pay GH¢25 to update their records onto the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority’s (DVLA) digital system as part of a nationwide onboarding exercise.
The DVLA says the process is aimed at verifying ownership of manually registered vehicles and preventing uncustomed vehicles from being captured in the electronic database.
Vehicle owners must personally present their vehicles at DVLA offices or designated centres with registration documents, customs declaration forms and a Ghana Card for biometric verification.
Director of Driver Training, Testing and Licensing, Kafui Semevo, explained that while document and vehicle checks are free, the GH¢25 fee covers biometric data verification.
He noted that successful onboarding will later enable vehicle owners to obtain a digital registration card and a certificate of title under the new licence plate regime.
He added that vehicles registered between January 2022 and December 2023 are not yet included in the exercise, advising owners in that category to wait for an official invitation from the DVLA.
