The five-member committee constituted by President John Dramani Mahama to investigate three petitions filed against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo will begin hearings on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The President formed the committee in consultation with the Council of State.
According to a statement signed by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the committee “will sit three times a week and present their recommendations to the President upon completion of their work.”
Chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, the committee was established in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution, following a determination that a prima facie case had been made.
The outcome of the hearings is expected to play a crucial role in determining whether the Chief Justice will be reinstated or dismissed, amidst growing public interest in the case.
