A thanksgiving mass was held at the Christ the King Catholic Parish in Accra on Sunday, August 17, to honour the memory of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Wing Commander Peter Baafemi Anala, both victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash.
The service, which drew family members, government officials, religious leaders, and hundreds of mourners, provided a moment of comfort as relatives of the two were invited forward to receive blessings in recognition of their sacrifice and service to the nation.
Delivering tributes, speakers described Dr. Omane Boamah and Squadron Leader Anala as selfless patriots who embodied integrity, courage, and commitment to Ghana’s peace and development. Children and spouses of the deceased also offered emotional messages, highlighting their devotion to both family and country.
The thanksgiving mass came just two days after a state funeral was held at Black Star Square, where President John Dramani Mahama announced the creation of a Children’s Support Fund to ensure the welfare and education of the dependents of all eight crash victims.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were President Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The thanksgiving mass marked yet another chapter in the nation’s collective mourning, blending faith and remembrance in honour of lives lost in service to Ghana.
