Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has donated about 3,000 packs of sanitary pads to basic schools in three districts of the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to address period poverty and reduce absenteeism among female students.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative seeks to remove financial barriers that often prevent young girls from attending school during their menstrual periods.

The beneficiary schools are Sepase M/A Junior High School in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, Patasi D/A Junior High School in the Amansie Central District, and Donuaso M/A Basic School in the Ejisu Municipality.

Speaking during the presentation, Managing Director of CBG, Dr Naomi Wolali Kwetey, said supporting communities remains a key pillar of the bank’s operations.

She noted that inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products continues to affect girls’ education and overall well-being.

Dr Kwetey explained that the bank’s decision followed observations that many female students miss classes because they cannot afford sanitary products.

She stressed that every child deserves the opportunity to receive uninterrupted education, adding that providing essential menstrual hygiene items helps girls remain in school, achieve their goals, and contribute to national development.

She said the intervention complements broader public sector efforts, including national initiatives aimed at improving access to sanitary products for girls across the country.

She added that future CSR programmes by the bank would also consider the welfare needs of male students.

Heads of the beneficiary schools expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as a timely intervention for families struggling with financial difficulties.

The Headmistress of Patasi D/A JHS, Esther Nyame, and Headmaster of Donuaso M/A Basic School, Kingsley Yeboah, said period poverty remains a challenge for many students, with some girls forced to stay away from school or experience discomfort and embarrassment due to a lack of sanitary products.

They assured CBG that the donated items would be properly distributed to the intended beneficiaries and commended the bank for supporting efforts to keep girls in school and protect their dignity.
