Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on Ghanaians living abroad to remain united and play an active role in Ghana’s development, assuring them that the government values their contributions to the country’s progress.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Ghanaian community in Maryland, United States, the Vice President conveyed warm greetings from President John Dramani Mahama, saying she had been asked to check on the welfare of Ghanaians in the diaspora.
She commended the Ghanaian community for projecting a positive image of the country abroad, noting that their achievements and conduct continue to make Ghana proud.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed the government’s appreciation for the continued support of Ghanaians living overseas, stressing that their contributions remain vital to the country’s development despite the geographical distance.
She acknowledged that the current administration inherited significant economic and governance challenges but said the government is committed to turning those difficulties into opportunities for sustainable national growth.
According to the Vice President, the administration is focused on building a stronger, more prosperous Ghana that benefits all citizens.
She urged Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliations, to place the country’s interests above partisan considerations and work together towards national development.
“This is the time to set aside partisanship and work together to build the Ghana everyone desires,” she said.
The Vice President highlighted key government priorities, including improving road infrastructure, expanding access to safe drinking water, enhancing the quality of education and healthcare, protecting the environment, and strengthening community safety.
She described these as common national goals that transcend political, religious and other differences.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also encouraged Ghanaians both at home and abroad to embrace sacrifice, determination, courage and unity, expressing confidence that collective efforts would help reposition Ghana for sustained progress and create a brighter future for generations to come.
