A former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Betty Krosby Mensah, has announced her intention to contest for the position of National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), subject to the party’s official opening of nominations and electoral guidelines.
In a statement, the aspiring candidate said her decision followed months of consultations and engagements with party stakeholders across all 16 regions of the country.
According to her, the nationwide tour enabled her to interact with Members of Parliament, women’s groups, grassroots activists, former women organisers, party elders, cadres, constituency and branch executives, and other key stakeholders to better understand the concerns and aspirations of the party’s women’s wing.
She described the consultations as insightful, saying they reinforced her commitment to serving the party and strengthening the role of women within the NDC.
The former legislator said her decision to seek the position was motivated by a desire to serve rather than personal ambition, citing her experience as a former Member of Parliament, former Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, and her years of service to the party.
She pledged to build a united, inclusive and vibrant Women’s Wing focused on effective mobilisation, leadership development, capacity building and the economic empowerment of women across all levels of the party.
The aspiring National Women’s Organiser also stressed the need to recognise the sacrifices and contributions of women to the growth of the NDC, describing them as the backbone of the party.
She called on delegates to support her bid when nominations officially open, expressing confidence that together they could strengthen the Women’s Wing and contribute to the continued growth of the NDC.
