The Coordinator of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Secretariat, Sena Okity-Duah, has announced that candidates placed in any senior high school through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) will not be allowed to change their placement.

This policy comes into effect as the school selection process for candidates writing the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) officially begins today, Tuesday, May 27, and runs until Friday, June 6.

The announcement was made during a press briefing to launch the revised guidelines for the school selection process.

Mrs. Okity-Duah emphasized that candidates are to select seven schools in total, five main choices and two alternatives.

She explained that the five main schools must be ranked in order of preference, with at least three designated as boarding schools and the remaining two as day schools.

Candidates are allowed to choose schools from Category B and Category C as either boarding or day options.

However, the new guidelines prohibit candidates from selecting more than one Category A school and no more than two Category B schools.

Students may select all five main options from Category C if they wish.

Mrs. Okity-Duah noted that candidates should make their selections in consultation with parents, guardians, and school authorities to ensure informed decisions.

She stressed that once placements are made, they will be final and cannot be changed under any circumstances.

She said, “Candidates who wish to enter SHS, T-VETS schools must be guidance from parents, guardians, and school authorities. Select seven schools in total, five long, and two alternatives. Your five long schools should be ranked in order of preference, with the first being the most preferred choice. Your two alternatives should be selected from Appendix C for consideration, if not placed in any of your five long choices. Select programmes and residential preferences for each of the schools. Candidates may select one Category B school as boarding, and another Category B school as day. Candidates may also select one Category C school as boarding, and another Category C school as day. Please note that candidates placed in any of their choices will not be changed.”

She added, “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, also note that candidates cannot choose more than one from Category A. Candidates cannot select more than two schools from Category B. Candidates may select all five schools from Category C. Candidates may select all five schools from Category A, B, C, using the same selection criteria as indicated earlier, as day or boarding. Candidates who wish to offer programme choices about future job prospects, such as engineers, physicians, astronauts, etc. must select ten choices in all five choices from Category A, B, C as day or boarding. The school selection form must be sent off by parent, guardian, and submitted to the head teacher of the day which has attended. All parents and guardians must keep a copy of the school selection form.”
