Dr. Steve Manteaw, Co-Chair of the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GHEITI) and a respected policy analyst, has praised the Mahama administration for what he describes as a swift turnaround of the economy following what he termed eight years of mismanagement under the previous Akufo-Addo–Bawumia government.
His remarks come after the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, presented the 2026 Budget to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
A key highlight of the budget is the scrapping of the Covid-19 Health Recovery Levy in 2026— a measure expected to ease the tax burden on both households and businesses.
The Finance Minister estimates that the removal of the levy will return GH¢3.7 billion to Ghanaians next year.
Dr. Ato Forson also projected a further decline in inflation to 8 percent by the end of 2026, keeping the rate within the government’s target band of 8±2 percent.
Additionally, the Finance Minister confirmed that the Mahama administration will complete ten of the abandoned Agenda 111 hospital projects in 2026.
Reacting in a Facebook post, Dr. Manteaw commended the Finance Minister for what he said was the restoration of hope and direction to the country within a few months of the new administration taking office.
“Ato restores hope to a nation broken by eight years of mismanagement and incompetence. Ghana has recovered its lost bearing,” he wrote.
Dr. Manteaw’s praise aligns with sentiments shared by many analysts who have welcomed the policy direction outlined in the 2026 Budget, describing it as a sign of renewed fiscal discipline and economic recovery under the new administration.
