Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has inaugurated a nine-member board led by Basil Ahiable as the governing board of the Public Procurement Authority.
Speaking at a brief ceremony to inaugurate the Board, Dr. Forson congratulated the newly appointed board members and charged them to reform the country’s procurement system and eliminate wasteful spending in public contracts.
He also emphasized the pressing need to enforce reforms targeted at delivering value for money in public procurement.

“As a country, we are paying billions of cedis for contracts that do not reflect value for money. This cannot continue, “It is time to ask the hard questions: Why do some state institutions allow the public to be saddled with excessive contracts at such a huge cost?”, he indicated.
According to the Minister, the recent amendment of the Public Procurement Act is a strategic move to address such inefficiencies by closing loopholes, tightening compliance, and enhancing oversight.

He walked the new board through the key elements of the amended law and issued a strong warning against non-compliance. He urged the members to prioritize competitive tendering as the standard procurement method, stressing that sole sourcing must remain the exception.
Members of the newly inaugurated PPA Governing Board are: Basil Ahiable –Chairman, Justice Srem-Sai, Joycelyn Quarshie, Isaac Faikue, Frank Agyare.

Others are Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini, Dr. Ahmed Zakaria Abdulai, Hajia Fatima Adamu and Frank Mantey.
The new board is expected to play a critical role in steering reforms that safeguard public funds and restore public confidence in the procurement system
