The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has expressed deep sorrow following the death of a National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) officer in a fatal accident in the Obuasi Municipality late Wednesday. Four other officers were critically injured in the crash.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Amoakohene said, “I have received briefing on the tragic accident involving members of the NAIMOS Task Force in the Obuasi Municipality. The incident has resulted in the unfortunate loss of one life, while three others have sustained severe injuries. I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult moment. Their loss is a loss to the region, and we stand with them in prayer and solidarity.”
He further wished the injured officers a speedy recovery, adding, “The Regional Security Council and the Obuasi Municipal authorities are coordinating with the appropriate agencies to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical attention.”
The Minister assured that authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and taking steps to prevent similar incidents.
“The safety and well being of all personnel engaged in national assignments remain a priority, and every effort will be made to prevent similar occurrences. The Ashanti Region stands united in support of the affected officers, their families, and the entire NAIMOS team,” he concluded.
