President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that new appointments for the Ministries of Defence and Environment, Science and Technology will be made next year, following the deaths of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed in the August 3 helicopter crash.
The announcement comes amid calls, especially from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), for swift action to fill the Defence Ministry post to ensure proper oversight of national security.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Ghana Muslim Mission at Jubilee House, Mahama addressed social media speculation about who would fill the vacant positions.
He emphasized that the appointments will be carefully considered and finalized after the holiday season.
He acknowledged public curiosity about the replacements, adding, “I can see people speculating he’s going to appoint a new defense minister, a new environment minister. We’re not in a hurry.”
Mahama confirmed that the appointments would be made after Christmas and the New Year. “I’ll do those appointments next year after the holiday… Go and enjoy Christmas and then after Christmas we will take a decision on those ones,” he said.
