Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to show leniency toward a nurse accused of insulting him on social media during recent protest over unpaid salaries.
In a statement issued on October 12, 2025, and signed by Ministry Spokesperson Tony Goodman, the Minister acknowledged the GHS’s swift action but urged the Service to “temper justice with mercy” in handling the matter involving Ms. Bernice Aboagye, a staff nurse at the Nkenkaasu District Hospital.
Ms. Aboagye was queried after a video surfaced online in which she allegedly used offensive language against the Minister during a nurses’ protest over unpaid salaries.
Mr. Akandoh said he and the government welcome constructive criticism but urged health workers to express their opinions “responsibly and respectfully.”
He also reminded health professionals to be cautious in their social media engagements and emphasized that while peaceful protests are constitutional rights, “the Ministry will not condone abusive language or acts of indiscipline.”
