More than 1,000 delegates and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency have threatened to defect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if chairmanship aspirant Samuel Bonney Mensah, popularly known as “Pee-Key,” is disqualified from contesting the party’s upcoming constituency executive elections.
Addressing the media, the group alleged that attempts were being made by some regional and constituency party executives to prevent Mr. Bonney Mensah from contesting.
The officials named in the allegations have not publicly responded.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Osafo Appiah said the aspirant had met all constitutional and administrative requirements to contest and described any attempt to disqualify him as unfair and unjustified.
He also commended Mr. Bonney Mensah for his long-standing support for the party, citing his financial contributions, campaign logistics and grassroots mobilisation during the 2024 general election.
The delegates appealed to the NPP’s National Executive Committee and the party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to intervene to ensure a fair electoral process and help resolve growing tensions within the constituency.
They warned that disqualifying Mr. Bonney Mensah could deepen divisions within the party and trigger the defection of more than 1,000 delegates and supporters to the NDC.
