The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC has donated Two Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢200,000) to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), also known as MahamaCares, to bolster efforts in providing medical care for patients battling chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The contribution aligns with the Fund’s ongoing “Heal Ghana Month” campaign in March, which seeks to raise resources for the treatment of chronic illnesses and medications not currently covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
During the presentation at the Fund’s secretariat, ADB’s Deputy Managing Director in charge of Services, Professor Ferdinand Ahiakpor, highlighted the critical role of collaborative efforts in improving healthcare access for vulnerable citizens.

“We recognize that sustainable development cannot be achieved without a healthy population. Our support to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund known as MahamaCares aligns with our commitment to building futures, nurturing communities, driving prosperity and supporting initiatives that have direct and meaningful impact on Ghanaians,” Professor Ahiakpor stated.
He added that access to quality healthcare is essential for national productivity and socio-economic growth, and emphasized that the donation marks the beginning of a sustained partnership aimed at supporting Ghanaians living with chronic illnesses.

The Administrator of the Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, thanked ADB’s Board and Management for prioritizing healthcare support at a time when many families struggle with high medical costs.
She explained that the “Heal Ghana Month” initiative follows an earlier February campaign dubbed “Kyere Wo Do” (“Show Your Love”), which mobilized support for patients requiring specialist care for conditions including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure, stroke, and other life-threatening illnesses.

Ms. Darko-Opoku also encouraged corporate organizations and individuals to contribute to the Fund, noting that donations qualify for a 100% tax deduction, making the initiative both humanitarian and financially responsible.
Present at the donation ceremony were General Manager in charge of Business Banking, Enoch Benjamin Donkoh; Head of Parastatals and Institutional Banking, Jalaludeen Emran Adam; and Head of Strategic Marketing and Brand Management, Mohammed Ali.
