The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured the family of the late Nana Agyei Ahyia of Ghana’s commitment to a thorough investigation into his death in Latvia.
The Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met with the family earlier today at the ministry, where he conveyed the government’s deepest condolences and briefed them on ongoing interventions.
“Following the tragic loss of Nana Agyei, we promptly dispatched a fact-finding mission from our embassy in Germany, which also covers Latvia, to gather information on the circumstances surrounding his death,” the Minister stated.
He added that the mission has submitted a preliminary report to the Ministry. Ablakwa confirmed that Latvian authorities have not yet concluded their investigation into the incident.
“I have formally notified the Latvian government of my decision to travel to Latvia to hold talks with my counterpart and engage with investigators directly,” he said.
He further disclosed that representatives of Nana Agyei Ahyia’s family will be part of the delegation.
The Ministry also announced plans to engage independent experts to analyze all investigative reports, particularly the final report from Latvian authorities, to guide the government’s next steps in seeking justice.
Nana Agyei Ahyia, a Ghanaian national, passed away under unclear circumstances while in Latvia.
Ablakwa has reassured the family that the government remains fully committed to pursuing justice for Nana Agyei Ahyia and maintaining transparency throughout the process.
