Ghana Water Limited has announced a temporary suspension of water supply from the Weija Treatment Plant to carry out critical pipeline repairs. The shutdown is scheduled for Thursday, December 4, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The company explained that one of the main pipelines supplying water to western Accra has developed serious perforations, posing a risk of collapse if not promptly repaired.
Affected communities include Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, and the North Industrial Area.
Solace Akomeah, Communication Manager for GWL Accra West Region, advised residents to store water ahead of the shutdown. “While we assure customers of resumption of production as soon as the work is completed, we encourage them to store water ahead of the shutdown,” she said.
GWL apologised for the inconvenience and emphasized that the maintenance is crucial to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the water supply system.
