President John Dramani Mahama has pledged the government’s support for the 2026 World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress, which Ghana is scheduled to host in Accra.
The assurance followed a courtesy call on the President by a delegation led by the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Reverend Dominic Yeo.
The delegation included the General Superintendents of Assemblies of God in Ghana, Reverend Stephen Yenusom Wengam; Benin, Reverend Ben Sodji; and Zambia, Reverend Lipenga Banda.
The Chairman of the Local Planning Committee for the congress, Reverend Andrews Awintia, and other dignitaries also accompanied the delegation.
During the meeting, Reverend Yeo commended President Mahama’s leadership and highlighted the importance of cooperation between the church and government in preparing for the international gathering.
He also called for stronger church-state collaboration to support the successful organisation of the congress.
President Mahama, who is a member of Assemblies of God, Ghana, welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the event.
He also stressed the importance of leaders being guided by moral and biblical values.
The 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress is scheduled to take place in Accra from October 14 to 16, 2026.
The gathering is expected to bring together church leaders and delegates from different countries for worship, fellowship, leadership development and discussions on the global mission of the church.
It will be the first time in the 115-year history of the Assemblies of God worldwide that the congress is hosted on African soil.
The event is expected to provide an opportunity for Ghana to strengthen its international religious connections while showcasing the country to visiting delegates.
President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama are expected to participate in the congress, with the President scheduled to address the opening gathering.
