The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has shut down the Adventist Day Senior High School examination centre in Kumasi after multiple mobile phones were confiscated from candidates.
Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, on Friday, September 5, 2025, disclosed at a press briefing that the move was necessary to protect the integrity of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to him, the affected candidates have since been relocated to WAEC’s regional office in Kumasi to continue their papers under stricter supervision.
The incident forms part of a wave of malpractice-related cases recorded in this year’s examination, with teachers, students, and invigilators among at least 14 people arrested across the country.
WAEC has assured that the results from all affected centres will be thoroughly scrutinised before release.
