The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced revised reopening dates for the 2026/2027 academic year following a directive by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on the resumption of academic activities at public universities.
Under the revised arrangements, fresh students are expected to report on Thursday, October 15, while continuing students will return on Saturday, October 17.
In an official notice on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the University said the new arrangements followed an emergency meeting of its Executive Committee held on the same day.
According to the notice, lectures for the academic year will begin on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The revised schedule applies to fresh and continuing students, as well as parents, guardians and other stakeholders involved in the reopening process.
“Following an Emergency Executive Committee Meeting held on Wednesday, 14th October, 2026, the University wishes to inform all students, parents/guardians and other stakeholders that the arrangements for the re-opening of the 2026/2027 Academic year are as follows,” the notice stated.
The University has advised students and other stakeholders to take note of the revised arrangements and plan accordingly.
“All students, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders are kindly advised to take note of the revised arrangements accordingly,” the notice added.
KNUST also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their understanding, patience and cooperation.
The notice was signed by E. T. Otieku, Deputy Registrar for General Administration, on behalf of the Registrar.
GTEC’s directive comes amid disruptions to administrative operations at public universities following industrial action by university administrators.
The Commission has called for academic activities to resume, with lectures expected to commence on Monday, October 19.
