The Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has announced the immediate cancellation of winning bonuses for members of the Black Stars Management Committee.
Under the new directive, players will continue to receive their $5,000 winning bonus per match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but the $10,000 previously allocated to management officials has been scrapped.
Addressing journalists in Accra on Tuesday, September 2, Mr. Adams explained that the Ministry has already approved a budget of $1.3 million to cater for two upcoming matches, instead of the usual $1 million allocation per game.
He stressed that management members will now only be entitled to per diems and no longer bonuses tied to match results.
“If for every win we are to pay a winning bonus, what happens if we do not win the number of games to qualify us for the tournament? Under the previous arrangement, management members received bonuses, yet the team failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. The players earned nothing, but managers walked away with bonuses. The president has made it clear: supervise and take your per diem, but no winning bonus,” the minister said.
Kofi Adams revealed that during past assignments, Black Stars players were paid $5,000 each as a winning bonus while Management Committee members pocketed double that amount.
“The Sports Ministry has decided not to pay winning bonuses to the management team members of the national teams. Per diem for each Black Stars player is $150, while technical team members receive $200,” he noted.
The Black Stars have since departed Accra for N’Djamena, where they are scheduled to face Chad on September 4 at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno. They will then return home to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
