The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has condemned the gruesome killing and burning of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
Mr. Akugri was reportedly attacked and murdered at Nangodi near Bolgatanga, after which his body was set ablaze by unknown assailants. The shocking incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for swift justice.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 20, Mr. Ayariga described the act as “dastardly” and called on law enforcement agencies to launch a thorough investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“I hereby condemn, in no uncertain terms, the shooting, killing and burning of the body of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, who was the Bongo district director of National Health Insurance Authority. The attack on him took place in Nangodi near Bolgatanga. My heartfelt condolences to the family of my late comrade,” the statement read.
Mr. Ayariga also urged the public, especially the youth, to remain calm and continue supporting peace initiatives in Bawku.
He commended the youth for their restraint and noted that significant progress is being made toward peace, particularly under the mediation efforts of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The statement added, “I urge all to remain calm and let’s focus on the on-going efforts of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku situation. I commend the youth for the restraint displayed so far and their recent efforts to maintain peace in Bawku. Significant progress is being made and no one should be allowed to derail the process.”
