The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong, who was killed in the Bronx, New York, has travelled to the United States to join family members in mourning her son and prepare for his burial.
Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi departed Ghana on Wednesday, accompanied to the airport by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a relative and other family members.
In a statement, the Ministry said staff of Ghana’s Mission in New York were on standby to receive her upon arrival and provide the necessary assistance during her stay.
The support, according to the Ministry, forms part of efforts to help the family arrange a befitting burial for the deceased.
Before her departure, Madam Gyamfi expressed her desire for justice for her son, whose killing has brought grief to the family.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for his personal support throughout the process, as well as the Deputy Minister, James Gyakye Quayson.
It also acknowledged the intervention of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the United States Embassy in Ghana in facilitating the visa arrangements.
The Ministry said it hoped those responsible for Javits Frimpong’s death would be apprehended and brought to justice.
The Ghana Mission in New York is expected to continue providing assistance to the bereaved family as arrangements are made for the teenager’s final burial.
