The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has requested nine years of financial, tax and banking records from law firm Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners as part of its ongoing investigations involving the firm’s senior partner, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
In a letter dated October 30, 2026, and addressed to the Accra-based law firm, EOCO requested audited financial statements, tax payment records and bank statements covering the period from 2017 to 2025.
The Office also requested evidence of taxes paid to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), including Corporate Tax, VAT, levies and withholding tax.
Other documents being sought include a list of bank accounts operated by the firm, its operating permit and renewal records from the relevant Municipal Assembly, as well as a list of employees, if any.
The request was made pursuant to Section 19 of the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804).
“Kindly furnish the Office with the under listed information for the period 2017 to 2025 to facilitate our investigations,” the letter stated.
EOCO has directed the firm to submit the requested documents by November 6, 2026.
“Your response is expected to reach the undersigned by 6th November, 2026,” it added.
The letter was signed by Raymond Archer, Acting Executive Director of EOCO.
The latest request comes weeks after EOCO arrested the Manhyia South MP on October 1, 2026, following his voluntary appearance at the agency’s headquarters in Accra.
His appearance followed an arrest warrant issued by an Accra High Court on September 30, after EOCO said it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure his attendance for questioning.
The investigations concern allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences.
EOCO confirmed his arrest in a statement, saying, “In accordance with those procedures, Mr. Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds.”
On October 3, the MP was granted GH¢10 million bail with two sureties by the High Court after pleading not guilty to three charges, including conspiracy, dissipation of public funds and intentionally causing financial loss to the state. He also faces a money laundering allegation relating to an alleged GH¢1 million transfer.
The investigation is linked to financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans and legal recovery work undertaken by Baffour Awuah’s former law firm for the company.
