The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cancelled the two-day mid-term break scheduled for November 5 and 6, 2026, directing all basic schools across the country to continue with normal academic activities.
The decision, according to Management of GES, is part of efforts to recover instructional hours lost during the recent industrial action.
In a notice signed by Daniel Fenyi of GES Headquarters, the Service said basic schools are expected to remain open on Thursday, November 5, and Friday, November 6, 2026.
“As part of efforts to recover instructional hours lost during the recent industrial action, Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform the public that the two-day mid-term break for basic schools, scheduled for November 5 and 6, 2026, has been called off,” the notice stated.
GES further directed that normal academic activities should continue throughout the two days.
“Therefore, all basic schools are expected to open and conduct normal academic activities on Thursday, November 5, and Friday, November 6, 2026,” the statement added.
The Service has urged teachers, students, parents, guardians and the general public to take note of the revised arrangement and be guided accordingly.
The cancellation means basic school pupils will have to attend classes during the originally scheduled mid-term break as the education authorities seek to make up for teaching time lost during the industrial action.
