The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has threatened legal action against MTN Ghana and other telecommunications network operators over persistent poor network services affecting businesses in the commercial hub.

In a statement issued by the Association’s Public Relations Officer , Takyi Addo on behalf of its President and leadership, the dealers expressed concern over recurring network interruptions, poor call quality and unreliable internet connectivity.

The Association said the challenges were disrupting business activities, making it difficult for traders to receive calls, communicate with customers, negotiate transactions, respond to enquiries and coordinate operations.

Abossey Okai is one of Ghana’s major automotive spare parts trading centres, connecting thousands of dealers, customers, importers, suppliers, clearing agents and business partners locally and internationally.

The Association noted that reliable telecommunications services were essential to the smooth operation of businesses in the area, warning that persistent network challenges were resulting in missed opportunities, lost customers, delayed transactions and potential financial losses.

It added that the situation was placing an additional burden on traders working to recover from previous economic difficulties and sustain their businesses.

The Association has called on MTN Ghana and other telecommunications operators to urgently investigate the reported network problems and take concrete steps to improve coverage, call quality and internet connectivity.

It is also demanding an official explanation for the recurring interruptions, together with a clear action plan and timeline for achieving lasting improvements.

Additionally, the dealers want telecommunications operators to engage directly with the Association to address the concerns of affected businesses and agree on sustainable solutions.

The Association maintained that its members pay for telecommunications services and are entitled to reliable service delivery in return.

The dealers have also appealed to the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and the National Communications Authority (NCA) to intervene.

They are asking the Ministry to provide policy-level attention and coordination, while urging the NCA to investigate the reported service challenges, assess network quality in Abossey Okai and surrounding business communities, and ensure that operators meet their obligations to consumers.

The Association believes regulatory intervention is necessary to protect consumers and ensure that businesses receive dependable telecommunications services.

The Association disclosed that its President had formally communicated a legal warning to MTN Ghana through the Public Relations Officer, indicating its intention to consider appropriate legal action if the concerns remained unresolved.

Although the dealers say they remain open to constructive engagement with MTN Ghana and other network operators, they insist they will pursue lawful measures if the situation is not satisfactorily addressed.

The Association has urged the telecommunications companies, the Ministry and the NCA to treat the matter with urgency, stressing that reliable communication is essential to business survival and the growth of Ghana’s commercial sector.

It concluded that the Abossey Okai business community deserves dependable telecommunications services to support its operations and livelihoods.
