Dzifa Tegah: Leadership is about impact, not holding positions

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy General Secretary aspirant Dzifa Tegah has explained why she is seeking a different leadership position instead of pursuing the National Women’s Organiser role.

In an interview with Ahontor FM, Ms Tegah said her decision to contest for Deputy General Secretary was informed by her desire to make a greater impact in an area where she believes her expertise and attention are needed.

She explained that although she has a background in communications and previously served as a constituency communicator before moving to the national level, she deliberately chose not to pursue the national communications position.

According to her, her political decisions are guided by the impact she hopes to make rather than the desire to remain in familiar positions.

“In this life, God didn’t create the same lane for everyone. So, if you are on earth and you decide to use the same lane as someone else, then you are not living your life; you are living someone else’s life,” she said.

Ms Tegah recalled that when she contested for the Women’s Organiser position, she left communications because she had identified a particular contribution she wanted to make in that role.

She said she had achieved the objectives she set for herself as Deputy Women’s Organiser and now believes she can serve the party more effectively as Deputy General Secretary.

“It’s not automatic that, as a Women’s Organiser, I have to continue to the national level. I see it as something I had to do. I have already achieved it, and I see that I can make a better impact as the Deputy General Secretary,” she stated.

The aspirant stressed that her decision was not simply about moving from one political office to another but responding to what she considers a more pressing need within the party.

She used a household analogy to explain her approach, saying leadership requires people to recognise when circumstances demand a change in priorities.

“It’s more like you’re cleaning your room. You know that after sweeping, you have to mop. But when you’re mopping, you realise that another side is burning. Instead of stopping the mopping and going to put out the fire, you decide to continue mopping because, after sweeping, you have to mop. You attend to the one that needs immediate attention,” she explained.

Ms Tegah maintained that holding a position should be measured by the contribution made rather than the title itself.

“It is not just about occupying a position; it’s about making an impact in that position,” she said.

She added that the NDC has other capable women who can contest for the Women’s Organiser position, giving her the opportunity to redirect her attention to another area of party administration.

Her comments come as she makes a case for her bid to become the party’s next Deputy General Secretary, with her campaign centred on the experience and contribution she believes she can bring to the position.
