The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Secretariat in Suhum has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate alleged vote-buying during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency elections in the area.
In a press statement dated October 25, 2025, the NPP secretariat accused some NDC government officials and appointees of distributing cash and household items to delegates during the elections held on Friday, October 24.
The secretariat said it had video evidence showing delegates scrambling for cash allegedly thrown into the air by individuals at the election grounds. It also claimed that items distributed included refrigerators, mobile phones, gas cylinders, burners, motorbikes, blenders and television sets.
Although the NPP secretariat congratulated the newly elected NDC constituency executives, it condemned the alleged activities, describing them as inconsistent with democratic principles.
“This is moneycracy at its filthiest level,” the statement said, arguing that the alleged distribution of cash and gifts undermined the integrity of the electoral process.
The secretariat further alleged that the activities involved individuals linked to senior government and NDC figures, including persons associated with the government’s representative in the Suhum Municipality. However, the statement did not provide independently verified evidence establishing the identities of those responsible or the source of the alleged funds and items.
It also claimed that some NDC executives had expressed concerns about the alleged vote-buying in videos recorded during the elections.
The NPP secretariat argued that the alleged distribution of gifts was particularly troubling given what it described as the poor condition of roads in Suhum and other pressing local needs.
It has therefore urged the OSP to investigate the source of the money and items allegedly distributed during the elections. The secretariat said it had attached videos as evidence to support its complaint.
