A 20-year-old suspected armed robber, Muntari Munumi, has died after collapsing while leading police officers to his alleged accomplices in the Upper East Region.
The Upper East Regional Police Command said the suspect complained of dizziness and suddenly fell unconscious while accompanying officers to arrest the individuals he had identified.
“He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The body has since been deposited at the Morgue for preservation and autopsy,” the Police said in a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026.
The cause of his death has not been established, with an autopsy expected to help determine the circumstances.
According to preliminary police investigations, Munumi was arrested after allegedly attacking two people returning home from Bazua after work at Sapeliga Junction, Kobore.

The suspect allegedly robbed the victims of a Royal motorbike, three mobile phones and GH¢1,820 in cash.
The victims reportedly fought back after he fired several rounds and missed his targets, eventually overpowering him and taking the M16 A2 assault rifle from him.
They alerted the Googo Neighbourhood Watch Committee, whose members mobilised, arrested the suspect and handed him over to the Police with the weapon.
Police said the suspect was found with three live rounds of ammunition and five expended shells.
The Police said Munumi later disclosed the names of his alleged accomplices and the source of weapons used in their operations. He agreed to lead officers to arrest them before collapsing during the journey.
The Command says efforts are underway to arrest the other suspects.
It also commended the victims, the Googo Neighbourhood Watch Committee and the Chief of Sapeliga for their support in apprehending the suspect and recovering the rifle.
