In the early hours of Thursday, May 15, 2025, national security forces raided the home of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, in an effort to recover state-owned vehicles allegedly in his possession.
At the time of the operation, Mr. Jumah, who previously served under ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was not present at his residence.
Sources suggest that Jumah is under investigation for potential financial misconduct during his tenure, including the suspicious acquisition of state vehicles and mismanagement of company resources.
One of the primary concerns revolves around a Genesis G90 saloon car (registration number GE 86 22-19), which Jumah purchased under a 2019 agreement from GIHOC’s Board of Directors.
Originally valued at over $100,000, the vehicle was sold to him for a mere 5% of its value, at GHS 4,943.11.
The 2018 model, with only 38,971 km on the clock, was appraised by the State Transport Corporation at GHS 98,862.00.
Additionally, Jumah is being scrutinized for keeping two other official vehicles, including an Audi worth over $60,000, without proper authorization.
He later instructed security personnel to return the cars, with one having been in the possession of his son. As of now, one of the vehicles has been successfully reclaimed.
Jumah also faces accusations of inflating staff numbers at GIHOC, putting undue financial strain on the company, and illegally selling company property in Tema valued at more than $700,000.
Investigations into these matters are still ongoing.
